Rimella and San Gottardo

Rimella has been the first community walser founded in Valsesia and it is the only still present in Val Mastallone. Even nowadays the inhabitants speak the ancient language walser (tittschu) and on special occasions, such as marriages, they wear the traditional dresses. The territory is preserved uncontaminated, and it still maintains in the 14 different communities the original and primitive architecture.

Anthropological Museum "Giovanni Battista Filippa"
The Museum Filippa, first civic museum founded in Piemonte, was created in 1836 thanks to the donation of the collections of Giovanni Battista Filippa (1778 -1838) to the Community of Rimella. His collections was made up of many books, coins and objects of different origin, patiently put together by the exceptional figure of Giovanni Filippa, during his adventurous life. museo filippaHe emigrated in young age (ten years old) in the Novarese area, he was called to military service in the Napoleonic troops (1807), in fact he fought alongside them during the war in Spain. In 1812 he was dismissed for serious illness and he returned in his "sumuseo filippaa" Rimella. At the moment of hisdeath, happened in 1838, the collection was still increased thanks to the interest of the painter Maurizio Antonini and of the priest Gaudenzio Cusa. He wanted to encourage curiosity and also the interest of the inhabitants of Rimella by giving them a representation of their world.

Ecomuseo Walser
In this Museum, strictly linked with the thematic of ecomuseums, particular attention is set to the relationship man / territory. It is a man's museum and at the same time the museum of the mountain that puts in evidence the features and the fundamental values of the man's experience in his surroundings. The Walser culture is investigated, in fact with its clever and versatile technology it practically preserved the integrity of the mountain, having allowed for centuries the survival of the Walser community.community walser.ecomuseo- The themes of the museum are: the molinary activity , the extraction and the laying of smooth rocks. the agrarian cycle, the work in the wood. Even feeding and natural remedies are not neglected. The show in the museum uses typical objects and informatic means to investigate the immaterial reality that surrounded the Walsers. Many objects or activities are now known thanks to oral depositions and traditions.
