July 5, 2026, will not be an ordinary Sunday for Val Mastallone. In the heart of the Valsesia summer, while the sun illuminates the peaks and the air fills with the scent of haymaking, Rimella is preparing to host one of the most enchanting events of the "A 2026 in the Sign of Margherita" calendar.

We at Walser House, who have always promoted the rediscovery of the alpine heritage, invite you to discover the details of this day that celebrates the harmony between man, nature, and history.

A Journey through History and Botany: The Sign of Margherita

The initiative was created to pay tribute to Queen Margherita, who made our mountains her chosen residence, but it does so with a modern and sustainable approach. On July 5th, the focus will be on biodiversity, understood as a precious asset to be known, protected, and "collected" with the eyes of the mind and heart.

Rimella, with its unique conformation and favorable exposure, hosts botanical varieties that are now rare elsewhere. Participating in this event means walking the same paths taken centuries ago by the Walser settlers, learning to name the flowers and herbs that make the landscape and the flavor of local products unique.

Day Program

1. The Guided Hike to the High Altitudes The morning will begin with a slow walk through the hamlets of Rimella. Accompanied by expert local guides, we will ascend towards the most iconic alpine pastures. This is not an athletic challenge, but a contemplative trek: we will stop to admire the craftsmanship of the stone huts, observe the water channeling system, and breathe in the silence that only 1400 meters above sea level can offer. 2. Creative Workshop: The Alpine Herbarium The central moment of the activity will be the outdoor workshop dedicated to creating an Alpine Herbarium. What is it? An ancient practice that combines science and art. What will we do? We will learn to recognize medicinal herbs, high-altitude flowers, and endemic species of the Val Mastallone. Under the guidance of botanists and enthusiasts, each participant will be able to compose their own paper herbarium, transforming a day of hiking into a tangible and lasting memory. It is a perfect activity for families, but also for those seeking a deep connection with the land. 3. Stop at the Farm: The Taste of Tradition The day will conclude where mountain life beats strongest: at an alpine farm. After nourishing the mind and spirit, it will be time to delight the palate. Participants will be able to taste the famous Rimella Cheese, made from raw milk using methods that have not changed in the last eight centuries. Accompanied by rye bread and local honey, it will be the crowning of an experience that engages all the senses.

Excursion and Alpine Herbarium: Sign up for the event on July 5, 2026.
