The Culture

The Walser people

The Walser are an ancient population of Germanic origin who colonized the high Alpine valleys in the 12th and 13th centuries, bringing with them a unique culture of distinctive traditions, language, and architecture.

In Valsesia, the Walser have left an indelible mark. Their characteristic houses of wood and stone, built with techniques passed down through centuries, represent a remarkable example of adaptation to the mountain environment.

The Titsch language, traditional costumes, and folk festivals are still celebrated today in the valley's Walser communities, keeping alive a cultural heritage that UNESCO has recognized as worthy of protection.
